Set before the original Darksiders, the game follows the Horsemen War and Strife as the Charred Council sends them to investigate Lucifer’s plans and the threat they pose to the Balance.
Fight through demons and angels in isometric levels: War specializes in close-range sword combat, while Strife attacks from a distance with guns and multiple ammunition types. In single-player, switch between the two during combat; two players can also play cooperatively.
Explore levels for secrets and upgrades, solve puzzles, navigate platforming sections, and face bosses. Abilities and items unlock as the campaign progresses, while Creature Cores can be collected and slotted to customize the Horsemen; new abilities also open routes back through earlier areas.
Among the supplied reviews, players who enjoy the game often praise its two contrasting fighters and the option to switch between them, along with the fast combat and cooperative play. Exploration, collectible upgrades, the Horsemen’s banter, and the soundtrack or visual style also recur as positives. Some reviewers particularly value playing with a partner, while others enjoy the game solo.
