John, a miner, and Sam, a mysterious young girl, leave their underground home as a toxic presence threatens the world above. Their journey takes them east across a decaying continent, through settlements and wilderness connected by rail.
Explore towns, forests, and dungeons, fight monsters and bosses, and solve environmental puzzles. John uses a frying pan and other weapons, while Sam’s kinetic powers can stun foes and help overcome obstacles; you can switch between them or separate them to reach hidden paths.
Collect ingredients and cook meals that restore health or grant bonuses. The journey also includes optional discoveries such as hidden chests, recipes, and an in-game RPG to play.
Players who enjoy Eastward often praise its detailed pixel art, expressive animation, atmospheric towns, and soundtrack. Some also value the characters, exploration, puzzles, and emotional story. Opinions on the narrative and pacing are mixed: while some players find it moving and engaging, others describe it as confusing or weighed down by long dialogue sections.
Eastward is a beautifully detailed and charming adventure game, from Shanghai-based indie developers, Pixpil.
In the near-future, society is starting to collapse, and the human population is at an all-time low. A deadly toxic presence has spread across the land, destroying and devouring everything in its path.
Those who could escape the miasma flocked to underground villages to start a new life. But for a hardworking miner and a mysterious young girl, the hope of a thriving outside world beckons…
