Set on the Eastern Front of World War II, the game puts you in the role of an infantry soldier or a crew member in an armored vehicle. Battles take place across maps depicting urban and rural settings.
Fight on foot with rifles, machine guns, and other weapons, or operate tanks and other vehicles. Work with teammates to advance and capture positions, and use an officer and radio to call artillery strikes.
Combat emphasizes careful positioning and weapon handling, with iron-sight aiming, rifle deployment, and bullet and projectile ballistics. The game centers on multiplayer battles and also offers practice against bots; it does not include a separate single-player campaign.
Players often praise the Eastern Front atmosphere, tactical combat, variety of infantry and vehicle roles, and the detail of the weapons and tanks. Some also enjoy practicing against bots, though other reviewers criticize the bots and many lament that online servers are sparsely populated. Several describe the deliberate pace and mechanics as rewarding once learned, while others find the game dated or difficult to get into.
