Up to 12 players enter the Backrooms in an asymmetric match: most play as scientists, while one begins as the shapeshifting Skin Stealer hidden among them. The scientists must work out who is a threat and survive; the creature tries to eliminate or infect them before they escape.
As scientists, players explore the maze, search for weapons and supplies, and investigate suspicious teammates. They can gather stabilizers to open a portal and escape, or fight to stop the Skin Stealers.
As the Skin Stealer, players impersonate humans, use stealth and attacks to hunt the team, and can absorb bodies or biological samples to progress toward an evolved form. Proximity voice chat supports coordination, bluffing, and suspicion during each round.
Players often describe the game as most enjoyable with friends, where hidden identities, voice chat, and the chance of betraying or suspecting teammates create tense and funny moments. Some also praise the Backrooms atmosphere, scavenging and gunplay, and the monster’s evolution. Others find the match loop repetitive or limited, and report friction with lobbies, connectivity, and disruptive players.

Direct attacks won't work against a well-coordinated team; you’ll need to be cunning.
Assimilate your victims, hide in plain sight, sow distrust, spread paranoia, and pit them against each other.
