In the Shapeshifter mode, spacemen try to complete objectives and call for rescue while identifying a monster hidden among them. The monster can disguise itself as a crewmate and hunt the others; a traitor may also help it.
Crew members investigate suspicious behavior, work together, and use weapons and tools as they try to survive. Proximity voice chat means players can hear one another more clearly nearby, and matches take place across varied space locations.
Separate solo or co-op modes include a story campaign against insect enemies and a survival mode with progressively tougher waves. Players can also practice or add security-guard bots, and rank progression unlocks character customization and perks.
Players often enjoy the tense, chaotic social deduction, especially when playing with friends. Reviews also praise the comic mishaps, proximity chat, and the co-op story mode. A recurring caveat is that public lobbies are now difficult to find, which can make the multiplayer experience hard to access without a group.
