Marlow Briggs is an action hero killed during a visit to an archaeological site in Central America and revived by an ancient Mayan mask. With the mask as his talking companion, he battles through jungle, temple, and industrial settings to rescue his girlfriend and confront the forces behind her abduction.
Combat is built around chaining light and heavy attacks into combos, switching between weapons, and using magic against groups of enemies. The fixed-camera adventure also mixes in climbing, platforming, puzzles, boss encounters, and arcade-style shooting and traversal sections.
Marlow gains four weapons and four magical abilities as the campaign progresses. Experience from combat and exploration can be spent upgrading them; weapon upgrades increase maximum health, while magic upgrades increase maximum mana. Optional challenges and collectibles provide additional experience.
