Claire Redfield and Moira Burton wake inside an abandoned detention facility on a remote island after being captured. Later, Barry Burton arrives searching for his daughter and teams up with Natalia, a girl who can sense enemies and hidden items. Their stories unfold across two linked campaigns.
Explore hostile locations, solve environmental puzzles, evade or fight monsters, and search for useful supplies. Combat-focused characters pair with partners who provide different abilities, such as using a flashlight to reveal or stun threats, spotting hidden objects, or detecting enemies. You can switch between each pair's characters as situations demand.
Ammunition and other resources are limited, so careful shooting and scavenging matter. The campaign is divided into episodes and includes crafting consumables and improving character skills. Raid Mode offers separate combat stages, with characters, weapons, and abilities to develop.
Players who praise the game often highlight its interwoven episodic story, memorable character pairings, tense atmosphere, and the way partners contribute distinct abilities. Raid Mode is another recurring favorite, especially for its stages, character variety, and progression. Other reviews criticize repetitive combat, awkward controls or partner behavior, the unclear choice leading to different endings, and the campaign's co-op limitations.

| Multiplayer | Resident Evil Revelations 2 supports single-player and 2-player co-op. The campaign supports local shared/split-screen co-op and solo play with character switching and AI support. Reviews consistently state campaign co-op is local only, not online. |
| Multiplayer & mods | No multiplayer mod support is described. Steam Remote Play Together is listed and mentioned in reviews as a workaround for remote campaign co-op, but this is not a game mod. |
