In 2034, survivors live in Moscow's subway stations after nuclear war has devastated the surface. As Artyom, a member of the Spartan Order, you become involved in a mission connected to a surviving mutant and the rival groups vying for power in the Metro.
This first-person campaign combines gunfights against human enemies and mutants with opportunities to sneak past or silently disable guards. You can explore stations, listen to residents, and venture onto the hazardous surface, where a gas mask and its filters are vital.
Manage ammunition and other supplies, customize weapons, and choose between Survival and Spartan play styles, which shift the emphasis toward scarcity or more action-focused combat. Your actions contribute to a moral system that can affect the ending; Redux also includes additional single-player missions.
The supplied reviews often single out the tense, detailed Metro setting, with inhabited stations, dark tunnels, and dangerous surface trips making the world feel vivid. Players also praise the story and characters, and enjoy being able to alternate between stealth and direct combat while managing scarce supplies. Some reviewers find the moral system's effect on the ending difficult to understand or overly demanding.
