After awakening two years after his father’s death, demon prince Laharl sets out to claim the Netherworld throne. His allies include the vassal Etna and angel trainee Flonne, in a story that mixes comedy with the struggle for power.

Battles take place on tactical grids, where characters move and act using attacks, magic, and special skills. Terrain effects can shape the fight, and units can lift and throw allies or enemies to reach difficult positions or set up attacks.

Recruit and develop a roster of character and monster classes, then use the Dark Assembly to vote on changes and unlock options. The Item World offers randomly generated battles inside equipment to strengthen it, while Transmigration lets characters restart at level one with improved growth. Optional post-game content extends the progression systems.
