You play as Gideon Wyeth, a human pilot drawn into a conflict with the Seekers, who search the galaxy for human colonies to destroy. Humanity is tied to an old galactic legend, and Gideon’s role in that conflict unfolds through a single-player science-fiction campaign.
Fight alien forces with firearms and psychic abilities in third-person combat. The campaign moves through combat encounters, boss fights, and vehicle sections, with dodging, jumping, and using the environment adding to the action.
Gideon can wield weapons in both hands and gradually gain psychic abilities such as telekinesis and shields. Weapons and abilities improve through use, so repeatedly using a skill builds its proficiency and effectiveness.
Players who enjoy Advent Rising often point to its large-scale science-fiction story, orchestral soundtrack, and the shift from gunfights to powerful psychic abilities. Some also appreciate that weapons and skills improve through use. These positives are frequently tempered by complaints about awkward controls and camera movement, technical problems, and the story’s unresolved continuation.
