In December 2012, former yakuza Kazuma Kiryu is living under a new identity and working as a cab driver when conflict among Japan’s yakuza organizations draws him back into their world. His story joins those of four other protagonists, each pursuing a different dream across five Japanese cities.
Play as five characters with distinct fighting styles and personal storylines. Explore city streets, take on substories and minigames, and battle groups of enemies in third-person beat ’em up combat. Character-specific abilities and skill progression shape how each protagonist fights.
Each protagonist also has activities tied to their life outside the main conflict: Kiryu drives a taxi and takes part in driving challenges, Saejima hunts in the mountains, Haruka competes in dance and idol activities, and Shinada’s story connects to baseball. A large collection of optional side content and minigames gives players more ways to explore each city.
Players who enjoyed the game often praised its broad variety, distinct protagonists and activities, satisfying combat, and character-focused story moments. The taxi, hunting, baseball, and idol sections make the campaign feel different from one character to the next, though reactions to particular sections vary. Many reviewers also felt that the lengthy campaign, frequent fights, and complicated plot could make the experience drag.
