Kazuma Kiryu is drawn back into the Tojo Clan's affairs after its chairman is assassinated. He travels to Osaka to try to prevent a war with the rival Omi Alliance, whose ambitious leader Ryuji Goda stands in his way.
Explore Kamurocho and Sotenbori, take on street fights, and use combos, heat actions, weapons, and objects in the environment to deal with opponents. The game also includes side stories that take Kiryu away from the main conflict.
Between story missions, visit restaurants and bars, play activities such as karaoke, batting cages, and blackjack, or manage a cabaret club and defend facilities with a crew. Earn experience through activities and missions to unlock character upgrades; a separate scenario lets you play as Goro Majima.
Many reviewers enjoy the clan-conflict story and its characters, especially Ryuji Goda, and praise the range of side activities and the separate Majima scenario. Some also appreciate the more detailed, connected city exploration and the brawling, while others find combat stiff or repetitive, particularly compared with earlier entries. Opinions on the story and combat vary across the supplied reviews.
Kazuma Kiryu thought his Tojo Clan days were behind him. He and the young girl in his care, Haruka Sawamura, have built a peaceful life from the ashes of conflict. All it took was a single gunshot to shatter that peace. Yukio Terada, the Fifth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, has been assassinated. With war on the horizon, the legendary Dragon of Dojima is pulled back into the world he wanted to leave behind.
Kiryu must travel to Sotenbori, Osaka in an attempt to broker peace between the rival clans, but Ryuji Goda, known as the Dragon of Kansai, will stop at nothing to get his war. In this world, there can only be one dragon.
