As Nick Ramos, you explore the zombie-infested city of Los Perdidos and try to escape before a military strike destroys it. The story unfolds through main missions and encounters with hostile survivors and other characters.
Search the city for supplies, blueprints, and other finds, then fight through dense zombie hordes with improvised weapons. You can combine items into weapons and vehicles, and take on side missions, challenges, and boss encounters.
Earn experience to develop Nick’s abilities and collect more blueprints as you progress. You can play alone or team up with a friend; co-op experience carries back to your single-player game. The Apocalypse Edition also includes four additional story chapters.
Players who enjoy the game often praise its chaotic zombie combat and the creativity of building unusual weapons and vehicles from scavenged parts. Co-op, exploring the city, and fighting its larger enemies also come up as sources of fun. Some reviewers find the missions and travel repetitive, while others criticize the PC version’s frame-rate cap and report losing saves when starting DLC.

| Multiplayer | Dead Rising 3 Apocalypse Edition supports online co-op for the main story/campaign. The provided text consistently indicates play with one friend, implying 2-player online co-op. Single-player is also supported. Reviews state the DLC chapters are not co-op. Multiplayer appears to include joining another player's session, built-in voice communication, collectible/progression carryover in some cases, and reports of disconnects and technical issues. |
| Multiplayer & mods | No multiplayer mods are described. Reviews mention PC file tweaks for framerate, but not multiplayer-specific mod support. One review claims multiplayer may require the same graphics card, but this is unverified. |
